The Islands in the Lagoon

A memorable tour across the Lagoon exploring Murano, Burano and Torcello

Murano glass factory

A relaxing and slow-paced excursion designed to experience the Northern Lagoon islands, Murano, Burano and Torcello, away from the city, and enveloped in nature. Also, the finest way to understand what Venice must have been like in those early days when it all happened.

Murano, our first stop, is the island famous for glass, an activity which boasts ancient origins and still maintains intact its tradition today. Admire the glass masters at work and appreciate the evolution of glass making in the Glass Museum. A little more up north is charming Burano with its brightly coloured houses, an island of fishermen, famous for a unique way of making lace, reproducing and inspired by fishing nets.

Torcello island

And last but not least, Torcello: only a few minutes away from Burano and yet here time seems to have stopped. The island is virtually uninhabited, with less than 10 residents all together. Immersed in a beautiful and lush local vegetation, Torcello preserves the oldest monument in the lagoon: the stunning Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta, founded in 639 and rebuilt in 1008. The interior is overwhelming and features ancient Byzantine mosaics representing the Virgin Mary and the Last Judgement.
