TOUR n. 14
FROM VENICE TO JAPAN, VIA EUROPE: CA' PESARO.
THE GALLERY OF MODERN ART AND THE MUSEUM OF ORIENTAL ART
Despite the turbulent times of
the 19th century and after the Second World War, Venice managed
to preserve its artistic vocation. The Gallery of Modern Art at
Ca’ Pesaro was created to house works from the Venice Biennale
of Contemporary Art purchased by Prince Giovanelli. Over the years
the collection has grown to encompass important Modernist works
by artists such as Klimt, Klee and Chagall as well as Italian artists
of the 19th and 20th centuries including: De Chirico, Guidi, Morandi
and the Venetian artist Emilio Vedova.
The exhibition resides in
a magnificent Baroque palace designed by the greatest architect
of 17th century Venice: Baldassare Longhena. The top floor houses
an idiosyncratic collection of objects from the Far East collected
by Conte Di Bardi on his round-the-world trip at the end of the
1800s. Lacquer work, swords, armour, scrolls and porcelain mainly
from the land of the rising sun open up a new world: the roots and
traditions of modern Japan.
The museum is closed on Mondays.
Duration: 2 hours
