TOUR n. 8
POMP AND CIRCUMSTANCE IN 18TH CENTURY VENICE: CA' REZZONICO
In the 1500s Ca’ Rezzonico was without doubt one
of the most sumptuous palaces in the city. The owners were one of the
most influential families of patrician Venice, and could boast a pope
among their members. In 1769 the Republic chose this home for the reception
given in honour of Joseph II and many other official feasts took place
there before the fall of the Republic. Later the palace hosted illustrious
foreigners, including the English poet Robert Browning.
Cà Rezzonico
offers a unique opportunity to admire an authentic 18th century palace
containing original period furniture, frescoes by Giambattista and
Giandomenico Tiepolo, views by Canaletto and exquisite domestic
scenes by Pietro Longhi; works that capture the atmosphere of
the Serenissima’s last century of power.
The tour cannot take place on Tuesdays as the museum is closed
Duration: 2 hours
